Road Pilots are ideally located off J33/M4 nr Cardiff and ideally positioned to serve the main cities, towns and surrounding areas in South Wales along the M4 arterial route from England (via the Severn Crossings toll bridges) right through to West Wales and the Ferry Terminals for Ireland.  Access from the North/Midlands is an option via the M50 (J8/M5). 

We are ideally positioned to support AIL movements to/from:-

Docks: Newport, Cardiff, Penarth, Barry, Port Talbot, Swansea, Pembroke Dock, Neyland, Milford Haven, Fishguard etc.

Power Stations: Uskmouth, Aberthaw, Pembroke Dock

Mines/Pits, Railway, Heavy Engineering, Bridges, Infrastructure etc

Police Force Areas 
Our region is covered by the Police Forces (from East to West) of Gwent, South Wales and Dyfed Powys.  Each force has a designated ALO (Abnormal Loads Officer) who we have found to all be extremely approachable and helpful with any AIL query.

Dimensions will be set following an assessment of the proposed route by the Force Abnormal Loads Officer.

A4232 > 3.96m (13’) wide (no hard shoulder)

A465 > 3.81m (12’6) wide from Hirwaun to Dowlais (carriageway in both directions is only 11’ wide plus one shared lane)
